The UNH IOL G.fast Consortium will host the first ever official Broadband Forum Virtual Plugfest, beginning December 7th. Registered companies will remotely access their devices to perform tests with other companies, who are also remotely controlling their equipment. The G.fast Consortium and its sister consortium, DSL, have held several Plugfests for emerging technologies in the past, the motivation to establish a virtual Plugfest came after the beginning of the G.fast interoperability beta program. The beta program itself is a study...

The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) has just released a new 32G Fibre Channel (32GFC) test suite based on the latest physical interface standard for Fibre Channel, FC-PI-6. With storage industries constantly driving towards faster speeds, Fibre Channel leads the way in FC-PI-6 with 32GFC technology. The UNH-IOL is constantly staying ahead of the curve with the latest technologies by updating test suites to enhance end user experiences and while also validating device compliance. In order for the...

In April 2014 the IETF Storage Maintenance (STORM) working group published RFC 7143 , a consolidated standards track document for all things iSCSI. We’re happy to report that the iSCSI Consortium has completed its efforts to revise our Login Phase, Full Feature Phase, and Multi-connection test suites in order to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date results.
There were some minor changes to the standard that should not dramatically affect existing implementations. Section 2.3 provides a...

The UNH-IOL is having another impressive year growing our new memberships. With the DSL industry making big strides, the lab is continuing to be a leader in testing services and will soon offer a testing for the Broadband Forum certification program for G.fast. As a newly emerging standard, the lab planned to stay ahead of the game by jumping right into exploring what G.fast had to offer. Fast forward a year or so later, and we are eager to see...

Joel Nkounkou, a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) working towards his computer engineering degree, is also a three year veteran at the UNH-IOL. He began his time at the lab in 2013 when he was accepted into the UNH-IOL High School Summer Internship Program. His engineering teacher at Dover High School told him about the program and his family encouraged him to apply. Initially, Joel worked in the Home Networking Consortium (HNC) alongside industry professionals, gaining real-world...

This week UNH-IOL is holding our 3rd Plugfest with the Open Compute Project (OCP) Networking Group. Our earlier events were focused on defining and improving our testing processes, but this event is special. We’ll be using everything we’ve learned as a community over the last year to prove interoperability of Open Networking by incorporating open testing, then using that to publish sets of known interoperable Open Networking solutions.

Throughout my time at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and the UNH-IOL, I have reached the understanding of what it means to be well balanced in my education and the importance of STEM programs in education. STEM programs allow students to look into the realms of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics beyond the definitions of the words themselves and into the real world applications of the trades. Each facet of STEM opens doors to infinite opportunities in countless industries...

Jeremy Hochschwender, a three year veteran here at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) recently sat down with me to discuss his job of designing printed circuit boards, or PCBs, here at the lab. The PCBs that Jeremy designs are used in MIPI DPHY testing. MIPI DPHY is a standard that defines communication specifications as well as the required electrical characteristics for cell phone components such as the display or the camera sensor. The MIPI Consortium uses these...
