Violett for Avnu System Requirements

Overview

The Violett Automation Framework Software is a lightweight desktop application and will run well on most systems. However, for the best experience, we recommend the following minimum system requirements. For a straightforward setup, the Client and Server may be installed and run on the same machine.

Hardware/System Requirements

Processor Any quad-core 64-bit AMD or Intel Processor
Memory 8GB (Minimum)
Available Storage 5GB (For captures, more is recommended if available)
Operating System

Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 - (For Hardware timestamping NICs, only the Echo NIC-1 is supported in this OS)

Ubuntu 14.04LTS (Official support in 1.2.0) - (For Hardware timestamping NICs, Oregano Systems syn1588 NIC and/or Intel i210 are recommended)

Additional notes
  • Linux support is officially planned for Violett v1.2.0. The current release (as of 2017-10-02) is v1.1.8, however this release supports preview support for the Intel i210 and any 'unsupport NIC' as noted below.
  • Unsupported NICs: In Linux, any NIC that supports Ubuntu 14.04LTS with hardware timestamping for all packets should be acceptable ("ethtool -T <interface>" to confirm)
  • Any common NIC that can pass VLAN tags to Wireshark should be acceptable for many tests, provided the device under test can accept software-timestamps.
  • Members-only features currently include "batch-mode" support, easing regression test integration. Note that Ixia, Spirent and Calnex resource automation support is planned as a member-only feature due to the higher support levels needed. OpenAvnu support will be provided to all licensed users when available.
  • Please contact us if you have additional questions about tool coverage and automation
