Candela LANforge Wi-Fi Testing Equipment

The UNH-IOL utilizes Candela Technologies' LANforge CT840b-ss-stack4 testbed for our Wireless Testing Services to deliver automated, highly repeatable, and scalable testing environments for our members. Designed to isolate devices under test (DUT) from external RF interference, this testbed supports automated execution of the Broadband Forum’s TR-398 performance standards, as well as custom mesh, mobility, and client emulation test plans.

CT840b-ss-stack4 (4-Chamber Stack)

The Candela CT840b-ss-stack4 is an integrated 4-chamber RF shielding stack designed to isolate Wi-Fi and RF equipment from outside environments. By providing ~80 dB of RF signal isolation across 0.8 GHz to 8 GHz frequencies, it establishes a pristine environment for controlled, repeatable throughput and performance measurements.

When combined with programmable RF attenuators and LANforge traffic generators, the testbed seamlessly emulates complex mesh topologies, station roaming, and real-world mobility scenarios without manual setup changes.

Key Capabilities & Components

  • Integrated 2D Turntable: Located in the main DUT chamber to support multi-angle radiation and spatial throughput testing with full software automation.
  • Multi-Chamber Topology:
    • Main Chamber: Houses the primary Access Point / Device Under Test (DUT) with the 2D turntable.
    • Top Chambers (2): Dedicated space for Wi-Fi Mesh nodes and auxiliary access points.
    • Bottom Chamber: Dedicated housing for LANforge Wi-Fi traffic generation hardware and controller systems.
  • LANforge WiFIRE Traffic Generation: Enables real-world stateful traffic generation, multi-station (STA) emulation, and network load testing.
  • RF Attenuation & Filtering: Integrated programmable attenuators and a complete complement of SMA ports, USB 3.0/C, 10G Ethernet, fiber, and power feedthrough filters for seamless external connectivity.
  • Automated TR-398 Execution: Fully orchestrated execution of the Broadband Forum TR-398 test suite for Wi-Fi performance benchmarking across long-duration test runs.
