Oracle speeds up ZFS Storage Appliance line, other data storage news

Oracle Corp. upgraded its Sun ZFS Storage Appliance line with enhancements to its Hybrid Storage Pool technology and the addition of Hybrid Columnar Compression support. The Sun ZFS Storage Appliances enterprise NAS systems use the Hybrid Storage Pools to accelerate IOPS performance. Oracle claims the 7420 model performed at 137,066 IOPS in the SPC-1 benchmark. Hybrid Columnar Compression is designed to decrease the data storage footprint for archived OLTP databases and data warehouses. The compression feature works with the Oracle Database 11g R2 that also launched this week at Oracle OpenWorld.
