Because Ethernet is getting deployed in so many different ways, it has a big economy of scale advantage over other transmission protocols—so whenever the idea of converging different types of networks comes up, Ethernet tends to be the protocol onto which other types of traffic are moved. We’ve seen this in backhaul and aggregation networks—and now it’s also happening in the data center.
