DSL/Wireless Test Technician

This is a part-time hourly position, without benefits, at the UNH InterOperability Lab. The UNH InterOperability Lab (UNH-IOL) has been testing Networking and Communications since 1988. Fully owned by the University of New Hampshire, the lab receives 100% of its funding from commercial companies in exchange for professional and testing services. The availability of the position is contingent upon funding. Testing services include areas such as Ethernet, DSL, Storage, Wireless and Internet Protocol (including IPv6). This position will report to one or more of the UNH-IOL managers and you will be assigned to your manager upon hire date.

Under general direction, test technicians are responsible for:

  • Interfacing with members of the DSL, G.fast, and Wi-Fi vendor community
  • Performing detailed conformance and interoperability based testing of existing and prototype products
  • Debugging, troubleshooting and providing general assistance throughout test cycle
  • Working on updating and reviewing our current Test Suites
  • Writing detailed conformance and interoperability reports

Training is provided on the job. Based on the extensive nature of the training, we welcome applications for students who plan to complete a degree four or more semesters from date of hire.

Future opportunities for growth of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Participation in development of test plans for new or existing technologies
  • Participation in development of software or hardware for the implementation of test(s)

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Enrolled in Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree program
  • Available to work 12 - 20 hours/week during semester
  • Available to work 40 hours/week during Summer, Winter, Spring break
  • Must also pass a pre-employment background check.  

Additional Desirable Qualifications

All majors accepted, Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering majors are preferred.

Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with a programming language, specifically Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Basic, and/or TCL
  • Familiarity with internet protocols, such as IPv4, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and WiFi
  • Technical writing proficiency
  • Ability to work both independently as well as a member of a team
