Network Management

Formed in early 1992, the Network Management Consortium tested protocols related to the Network Management Framework. These tests included Management Information Base (MIB) Verification according to the subset of Abstract Syntax Notation One (ASN.1) defined in RFC-1155, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Operation testing for conformance to RFC-1157, and MIB-2 Object Accuracy testing according to the definitions of RFC-1213. Additional test suites covered RMON MIB (RFC-1757), Repeater MIB (RFC-1516), Ethernet-like interfaces MIB (RFC-1643), and RMON Token-Ring Extensions MIB (RFC-1513) verification, as well as SNMPv2 (RFC-1448) protocol operations. Interoperability testing between SNMP agent and management station software was also offered.

The consortium hosted a successful multi-vendor Group Test in March 1997. Having served more than 30 member companies, the consortium closed in 2000 due to lack of industry demand. Please contact us if you have any questions about this or any other consortium or technology.
