4.1 Multiple Sessions

4.1.1 Test Setup

Refer to figure 4-1. This test combines the test setup from section 3.1 with a second identical test setup that utilizes two more ports on the Ethernet switch. This second setup uses channel 2 of AWG2020, a CentreCom 210-T twisted pair transceiver, and a W&G Protocol Analyzer. DTE 1 and DTE 2 are chosen from the collection of DTE's under test.

Channel 1 generates XNS echo request packets destined for DTE 1. DTE 1 transmits XNS echo reply packets in response to the request packets. The W&G protocol analyzer captures these replies and any errors that may occur. Channel 2 generates XNS echo request packets destined for DTE 2. DTE 2 transmits XNS echo reply packets which are captured by the HP Network Advisor. The HP Network Advisor also catches any errors that may occur on the that segment. Channel 1 and Channel 2 do not generate packets with identical source addresses.

4.1.2 Test Procedure

  1. Channel 1 generates 50,000 64-byte XNS echo request packets with inter-packet spacing equal to the minimum inter-packet spacing supported by DTE 1. Channel 2 generates 50,000 64-byte XNS echo request packets with inter-packet spacing that matches the minimum interpacket spacing supported by DTE 2. This creates two separate echo-reply sessions. Each session must meet the criteria described in 3.2a, that is, no more than 1 packet can be lost over each segment (there are four segments total).

  2. The procedure from 4.1.2 is repeated with 1,518-byte XNS echo request packets. Each session must meet the criteria described in 3.2a, i.e. no more than 7 packets can be lost over each segment.
