The UNH-IOL is an approved Independent Certification Vendor (ICV) for the DLNA. This entitles us to perform certification testing for the DLNA using the DLNA Certification Test Plan. The DLNA reserves the right to award certification.

The DLNA made official changes in certification process on March 31st 2009. These changes are summarized in the following DLNA presentation: This new process requires a payment from Vendors to DLNA for the certification process to be completed. This fee is not something UNH-IOL can support (previously, UNH-IOL covered the $200 fee for DLNA WCS registration, but we do not collect sufficient support from our fee-model to cover DLNA's Class-2 $1000 registration fee, and certainly not for their Class-1 $15,000 registration fee (see slide 26 of the referenced presentation) This new DLNA process was announced via DLNA reflectors and posted here:.

Yes, you should. Though you are not required to send two of the same device for testing, doing so will get you your results sooner. They must be the same hardware and software revision.

Currently we are offering two options for single devices: The cheapest option would be our "Single Device-class Test Run" which gives you a single run with no debugging. The single test run package is ideal for customers who are confident they will pass certification without fails or debugging. Keep in mind that it is extremely rare that a device will pass the first time through. The more popular single-class-option is our "One Device-Class Testing Package". This is a package that includes Pre-Certification Testing as well as Official DLNA Certification Testing. Pre-Certification Testing involves the exact same testing as is executed during Official DLNA Certification Testing, but includes flexibility for device manufacturers to debug certification test issues and perform regression testing. We offer the DHN Consortium Option for vendors who predict issues, bugs, multiple rounds of testing, or multiple devices to certify, as you can return and test as much as you like based on availability without incurring additional costs. This popular option supports any number of certification tests on a scheduled basis for $15,000/annum. The membership covers all certification and pre-certification needs of most vendors, and is an easy once a year line-item on your budget that covers the whole year.

Consortium membership offers unlimited testing within the scope of our "fairness algorithm". The fairness algorithm states that vendors can only reserve ONE slot per MEMBERSHIP at any given time. As soon as your reserved slot is used, you may immediately reserve any available test slot you choose (Each testing slot is nominally one week, not to exceed 40man-hours, and may include any mix of compliance, interop or member-defined testing process). This stops vendors from reserving all "high demand" weeks and leaving non-members all un-desireable test slots. We can usually do more than one slot per week, so there are plenty of opportunities available. In reality, it is all based on demand. The MINIMUM you would get out of a consortium membership would be about 6 test slots (each including pre-testing/debugging), but with demand fluctuating throughout the year, and our employee pool growing larger, I expect you would be able to get more than 6. Currently, consortium membership also includes participation in any UNH-IOL hosted RDQ and plugfest events.
