Certified Document Validation

Certificate Installation Procedure

To install the UNH-IOL certificate, follow the 5 steps below. Once installed, this procedure does not need to be repeated until the UNH-IOL issues another certificate – usually at the start of every calendar year.

Adobe Reader X or compatible must be installed.

Step 1

Close any open Adobe PDF documents or applications.

Save the current certificate for 2011 to your computer, then double-click the file to open it. (Previous public certificates are located in the "All Certificates and Fingerprints" section.)

This file should automatically open Adobe's Data Exchange File Import window.

Step 2

Click "Add Contacts to List of Trusted Identities" to add the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory as a trusted identity.

Step 3

Review the "Certificate Details" to view the certificate's properties and verify that the certificate is in fact from the UNH-IOL. Select the check-boxes "Use this certificate as a trusted root," "Certified Documents," and "Dynamic Content" then click "OK."

Step 4

Verify that the MD5 and SHA-1 Fingerprints in the certificate are correct (compare them with our list of fingerprints) for the same year the certificate was generated. Do this by going to "Details" and click on "MD5 digest" and "SHA1 digest." If the fingerprints do not match, then the certificate is a forgery. .

Step 5

Click "OK" in the "Import Complete" dialog window. You have successfully installed the UNH-IOL certificate.

For confirmation, you can open this sample signed document for 2011.
